Chapter Two. Paradigms, Theory, and Research
THE IMPORTANCE OF THEORY IN THE "REAL WORLD"
There is a danger that social theory can
seem "purely theoretical," with little or nothing to do with the so-called
real world. As you will see in this book, however, theory organizes
our inquiry, tells us where to look, and helps us understand what we find.
This is just as relevant to specific, practical problems as with a generalized
understanding of how society works.
