| Pretty overcast
and dreary this morning, and connecting with the internet was an adventure,
so we didn't get out to see any of the city yet. Also, the reports
of temperatures in the high 80s in France suggest we may want to reorganize
our suitcases again--with naked on top. With only one full day in Oslo, however, we felt we should do at least some touring when it stopped raining, and we found a few points of interest within 5-10 minutes walk: |
The Royal Palace |
The National Theatre |
The University of Oslo |
|
. . .and the National Gallery, featuring
both Norwegian and international artists. At first, I was hesitant to take any pictures, since museums and galleries are often testy about that. Flash photos can degrade paintings and other materials whereas any reproduction can potentially cut into ownership perks. However, after a Japanese tour group arrived, taking videos and flash photos of the paintings, themselves, and themselves with the paintings, I succumbed to taking a few non-flash photos. You might be interested in some of what we saw. (I took about 50 pictures of pictures.) |
Munch (more faded than I've shown it) |
Picasso (hope I got this right side up) |
Renoir (the reflection was my added touch) |
| I know what you're
wondering but are too polite to ask: "Did they really go to an art
gallery or did they just drink beer and buy the postcards. To resolve
that question, I offer the following evidence. We visited and thoroughly enjoyed the art gallery, and then we had some beer, some cheese and crackers, and now one of us is relaxing and the other is processing photos and writing devastatingly witty narratives. Tomorrow, we will have the morning for Oslo; then we'll fly to London, spend the night, and on to France on Sunday. |
